Branded Oral Medication
REFILL REQUEST
By far the most common way to treat male sexual dysfunction such as ED is to take oral medications. Most of these prescription drugs are so popular that people know them by name, with Viagra® and Cialis® being the No. 1 and No. 2 most-asked-for erectile dysfunction medications.
While there are many different brand names for these drugs, they all tend to treat ED in the same way: as vasodilators, which widen blood vessels and allow better blood flow throughout the body – including to the penis during sexual arousal.
These medications do not cure ED, nor do they increase sex drive. Most take about 30-60 minutes to take effect.
Men who are currently taking nitrates, beta blockers, or blood thinners for heart disease may be advised against using Viagra because it can cause dangerously low blood pressure levels. Also, avoid alcohol use while taking this drug because it can counteract the effects of the medication.
Most Popular ED Pills
- Viagra is a brand-name version of sildenafil. It is available in tablet form and can be taken on an as-needed basis. Viagra should not be taken more than once per day.
- Cialis is a brand of the drug tadalafil. It is available in tablet form and can be taken daily or as needed. The primary difference between the two is that Viagra is shorter-lasting (4-6 hours) while Cialis can last 18 hours or longer.
- Levitra® and Staxyn® are brand versions of vardenafil. They are available in tablet form that can either be swallowed with water or rapidly dissolved in the mouth and taken without water. Effects last for 6-8 hours. Levitra or Staxyn should not be taken more than once per day.
